Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is an outpatient procedure that involves the removal of vein branches on the surface of the legs. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. First, tiny incisions in the skin are made, then the varicose veins are removed through the incisions. The incisions are so small that stitches are not required.

The patient can usually return to normal daily routines immediately, although compression stockings will need to be worn for one or two weeks.

Side effects are rare but include paresthesia, bruising and hematoma.
